The Megaton Men : I'm A Conservative

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Megaton Men were from Newport Gwent and this E.P. came out in 1994. Good E.P. puts me in mind of The Damned & The Stranglers with a bit of Letherface thrown in for good measure.
The cover star is Stephen Milligan, who was a Conservative MP and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the notorious arms dealer Jonathan Aitken, then a minister in the Tory government. On 7th February 1994, Milligan was found dead in his London flat, dressed in women's underwear, tied to a chair, with a plastic bag over his head and a satsuma stuffed into his mouth.
Anyways! Good E.P. and on Blue Vinyl!

Thanks for the namecheck.

Actually, we were from Cardiff & Penarth, though Deano set up a studio in Newport some time after the band's hibernation in 1992.

The single was supposed to be brought out in time for the general election in '92, but got delayed and delayed by the pressing plant until the election was officially called, and that meant it then couldn't be broadcast (easily), which contributed to everyone f*cking off and doing their own thing.
B*gger.

I believe that Deano let some copies be given away free on the cover of a Newport fanzine, which is probably where the '94 timing comes in. There are 1000 individually numbered copies in existence, of which John Peel had number one, and the band 2 to 5.

The single gets us most of our mentions on the internet, 'cos it was produced by Raymond 'Nains' Watts from the industrial band 'Pig'.

I'm gonna put some more files up on GarageBand and MySpace if yer wants them.

Thanks a lot for filling in the gaps. It's always great when a band member gets in touch and puts some flesh on the bones. I've got 2 of those 1000 copies! Always liked the single i'll hunt down your my-space. Thanks for the information & the songs. Nice one.
