Crass - Live In Aberdare July 1984

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Posting this for a couple of reasons.
1. Because I was there, basically. It's like this.... A mate of mine got involved, so to speak, in an interview with Steve for a zine a few years back, and he said then that the gig was the catalyst for them splitting up. This has been re-affirmed in both Mr.Berger's & Mr Glasper's books.
It bothers me a little, as I don't think people (unless you lived in those communities at the time) fully remember what it was like living through the Miners Strike. It was civil war and Crass walked straight into the middle of one. A lot of kid's came from family's of miners, money was non existent for many, people were living on handouts, soup kitchens. People were getting nicked for digging coal off the mountain to light their fires. This was a rare night out for many, a lot of these kids had absolutely nothing at the time. I'll never forget Union reps handing Crass a Davey Lamp (front page of the Aberdare Leader!) few boneheads from Merthyr, (Pete's references to union jack t-shirts)loads of pissed up Bristol Punks... but nothing so bad you'd want to split up? Surely? I thought the cavalry had come to town... they took one look and rode off. That's how it felt. I was 16.
It's also the gig where I first developed tinnitus. Didn't hear properly for a year after. Still can't.

2. Because I just came across these great pics on the Southern Forum, for an old Bridgehouse gig. Click pic go see. Great shots i've never seen before. Well done that man for uploading them.

Crass - Live In Aberdare

Originally got this tape from 'Smiling Fesces' fanzine, which was always good.

Nice post John. First time I saw Crass there was a fight between Colin from Conflict and a skinhead, remember Steve Ignorant flying across my head to help sort it out.

Ha! Sounds like a typical 80's evening Nuzz. Old Colin's not shy either is he. Hoping Conflict playing here again next weekend for Stig Icons Of Filth memorial gig.
Cheers for comments as always.
